The article covers the approaches by the United Nations Organization to carry out the process of peace settlement and prevention of conflicts. The author analyzes subtleties of peace-making terminology, distinction of terms «peacemaking», «peacekeeping», «peace enforcement», and also definitions of «preventive diplomacy » and « preventive measures » which are very popular today.
